Chapter Seven: Nootau
Waiting on a Chance
He'd kept an eye out for anyone who looked like they were part of the Underground but he only had clues and hearsay on how to identify any of them. Nootau observed any patrons overly interested in the Algonquin or other native skin walkers. The chasers made it difficult, though. They were like barnacles on a ship—easily attached, hard to get rid of. Even when they knew he had no tattoo marking him, they hovered.
"You have any walkers as friends?" A girl asked. "They here?"
"Walkers. Friendly with any?"
"Oh, no. Sorry."
The girl huffed dramatically and turned away.
Nootau leaned against the wall, hugging his mug of Black Dragon Stout. He'd been able to stow his pack, then grab a small table with good very positioning during dinner. The waitress wasn't exactly thrilled with him staying on, but he had a tab going so she couldn't complain too much. Well, she could technically, though Nootau did try to order something every hour or so. He hoped he had enough coin to cover the bill.
Please let me have enough.
"You ready for your check?" Jeanne asked, one hand on the table. Her dry question gave Nootau a pang of guilt.
"No, could I have another order of those hot cayenne sweet potato fries?"
"Sure." She sighed but turned to put the order into the kitchen.
Jeanne waved him off, disappearing in the sea of customers.
Another beer was out of the question. Nootau had been nursing the one he had for the past couple hours. With everything his body had gone through recently, getting drunk seemed like a bad idea. He could easily put his head back and pass out here for all intents and purposes. He'd get robbed blind most likely, but the temptation would be too strong if he was less inhibited. As it were, Nootau already wanted to put his head down for a quick nap.
The fries slid in front of Nootau. He offered Jeanne a smile. She dipped her head and continued on to the next table, flirting and bending over for the men to get a better view of her assets.
They are very nice assets.
As if she felt him watching, Jeanne glanced back at Nootau. He winked, offering another smile. Jeanne rolled her eyes and turned her attention to the men at her table. Oh well. She would've been fun to take a tumble with if things don't pan out here for Nootau. He'd just have to find someone else. A warm body and a bed were all he needed.
The noise had only gotten louder as the night wore on. Nootau paid his tab and gave up his table, moving to the dance floor. Without knowing who he was looking for Nootau had been groping blindly for the Underground. No one had even dropped any kind of hints either. Nootau laughed. What did I expect? A welcome sign? The writhing mass of people wasn't exactly where he wanted to be, but Nootau needed to find a partner, or partners, for the night. He'd start fresh in the morning, after a good fuck and some sleep.
Nootau certainly wasn't lacking for partners either.
A blond Adonis ground against him in the back while a petite, redheaded woman humped against his front. All pretenses of dancing were gone. Fuck, he had two different hands down his pants. The man's hand was down the front of Nootau's pants while the woman's held his ass, trailing her fingers over his crack.
Yeah, they all wanted to fuck. Bad. Sharing wouldn't be a problem either since the two seemed to be a pair. Their roaming hands had touched multiple times and neither one withdrew or argued.
Nootau kissed the woman's face and jaw while the Adonis behind him attacked the nape of his neck. He pulled her harder against him and ground their erections together. They shared a smile. Seemed she hadn't tucked on purpose. Smart girl. They really needed to get out of the bar before they did something to get them kicked out. Fucking in full view wasn't exactly encouraged. Not discouraged, but definitely not encouraged.
"Hey," Nootau said into her ear. "You and your... Boyfriend? Have a place we can enjoy together?"
"Yes," she answered then looked over his shoulder. "Aegeus. Time to go."
She walked away before Nootau could say anything. He reached for her but was pulled back. A warm breath wafted by Nootau's ear, followed by a raspy, "Are you sure?"
"Are you asking if I mind she's trans? Or if I want in the middle of you two?"
"I don't want Edwige hurt."
"Why should I care?" Nootau turned in Aegeus's arms. He even sent a tentative finger up, stroking Aegeus's crest, the bumps and ridges tell-tales signs that his second lover was a merman. "Everyone has their issues. People and Beings have all sorts of masks. It's what lies beneath that matters. Edwige is a beautiful woman."
Aegeus's dark brown eyes flashed before a slow grin formed on his face. Uncertainty lay underneath the bravado, though. "Then you won't mind me either?"
So that's how it is. Nootau shook his head. "I have a bag and coat I need to grab before we take off."
"We'll meet you by the door."
"Be there in five, tops."
They pulled apart, Nootau heading for the coat room and his new bedmates for the door. When Nootau got his pack and coat back with everything where it should be, he didn't mind having to hand over the extra coin for storing it.
Nootau pushed through the crowd, his heart hammering with anticipation. A zing ran through him, his body humming with need. Their playfulness had drawn him to them on the dance floor, but their vulnerability was what really had him going. Nootau didn't want to let their trust down.
For a moment he didn't recognize anyone by the door, and disappointment crashed down on him. But maybe they were just outside? He pushed the heavy door open and stepped into the frigid night, looking left then right. About five feet away Aegeus had Edwige pinned against the brick, kissing the life out of her.
"Can three play this game?" Nootau asked, smiling when their heated gazes met his.
